Fast and Furious star Sung Kang has thrown his hat into the ring to portray the next live-action Freddy Krueger in the highly anticipated Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.
Originated by horror legend Robert Englund in 1984’s original A Nightmare on Elm Street, the role of Freddy Krueger has been iconic. However, Englund has ruled out a return due to physical limitations, expressing interest in a cameo role instead.
Englund has suggested Footloose star Kevin Bacon as a potential successor, citing Bacon’s respect for the genre and physical acting prowess as fitting attributes. Bacon himself hasn’t dismissed the idea, leaving the door open for future opportunities.
Sung Kang, known for his roles in the Fast and Furious franchise, expressed enthusiasm for taking on the role of Freddy Krueger. Despite acknowledging the challenges of prosthetic makeup and long hours in the chair, Kang finds the character appealing and iconic, making it a bucket list role for him.
While the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot is in the works, no release date has been announced yet. With Englund stepping aside, the casting of the next Freddy Krueger remains a topic of speculation and anticipation among fans of the horror franchise.
