“Terrifier 3” is reportedly going independent as Hollywood studios have pulled out due to concerns about its extreme violence and gory visuals. Despite the success of “Terrifier 2,” which earned over $15 million at the box office with a modest budget, director Damien Leone revealed that studios were hesitant to fund the third installment due to its violent opening scene. Leone expressed concerns about having studio oversight and decided to make “Terrifier 3” independently. He mentioned that the first five minutes of the film would be controversial and that the opening scene is so violent that no studio would allow him to film it. “Terrifier 3” is set to be even more extreme than its predecessors and will focus on Christmas, aiming for an October 25, 2024 release. The franchise’s main character, Art the Clown, is becoming an iconic figure in the horror genre.
