In February of last year, a 31-year-old Nigerian woman experienced a remarkable event during childbirth that amazed everyone. Today, she proudly distinguishes between her twin sons, Daniel and David, who possess an astonishing dissimilarity despite being twins.
Stacy and Babajide, residents of Lagos, Nigeria, are delighted parents to these charming twins, whose markedly different appearances often attract attention. Despite being identical twins, David’s fair skin and golden hair stand in stark contrast to Daniel’s dark complexion and black curly hair. Following in the footsteps of their older sister, Demilade, the twins quickly gained popularity, amassing nearly 18,000 followers on Instagram within their first year.
The twins’ unexpected arrival on February 26th was a surprise to all. “During my pregnancy, we had no inkling of their differences; the scans showed nothing unusual,” Stacy, a mother of three, reveals. “It was mind-blowing when Daniel, with black hair, was born first, followed by David, with gold hair. Even the doctors were astonished, declaring them completely non-identical twins!” Overjoyed by the rare occurrence, the twins’ father affectionately nicknamed David ‘Golden’ and marveled at God’s wondrous creation.
David’s unique appearance is attributed to albinism, a condition present in only 1 in 20,000 infants, characterized by a lack of melanin production affecting skin, hair, and eye color. Despite the potential health implications associated with albinism, Stacy confirms that David experiences no complications. However, Nigeria, despite having one of the highest rates of albinism globally, also faces significant discrimination against this community, with over 600,000 albino Nigerians enduring prejudice and harassment.
Despite societal challenges, Stacy ensures her sons receive equal love and support, shielding them from unpleasant experiences. Their unique qualities have attracted the attention of modeling agencies in the UK, and the family embraces potential opportunities. Through their Instagram account, they aim to share joy and raise awareness about important issues. Stacy proudly describes her sons as having distinct yet wonderful personalities, with Daniel being expressive and David more observant, both displaying boundless energy.
