Principal photography for the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat sequel has wrapped up, marking a significant milestone in the film’s production. Actor Max Huang, who portrays Kung Lao in the upcoming live-action adaptation, took to Instagram to share the exciting news along with behind-the-scenes images from the sequel’s wrap party.
The post received enthusiastic responses from fellow cast members, with Lewis Tan, who plays Cole Young, acknowledging Huang’s character as “The great KL.” Desmond Chiam, portraying King Jerrod, expressed his pleasure in finally meeting Huang, while Mehcad Brooks, who stars as Jax, referred to the cast members as “Gods and Goddesses.”
The completion of principal photography signifies progress for Mortal Kombat 2, especially after the hiatus caused by the strikes in November 2023. Although the sequel’s release window remains undisclosed, this update is undoubtedly promising for eager fans awaiting its arrival since the debut of Mortal Kombat in 2021.
Directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Ed Boon, Jeremy Slater, and John Tobias, Mortal Kombat 2 features a star-studded cast, including returning actors such as Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, and Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, among others. Additionally, Karl Urban joins the cast as the beloved Johnny Cage.
Newcomers to the franchise include Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, Ana Thu Nguyen, Desmond Chiam, and Damon Herriman. While Mortal Kombat 2 awaits its official release date, fans can revisit the 2021 installment, available for streaming on Prime Video.
