Netflix is reportedly expanding the “Peaky Blinders” universe with two spinoffs in development. According to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw, these spinoffs will explore different aspects of the acclaimed series.
One spinoff is set in Boston during the mid-20th century, a few decades after the original show’s timeline, which took place between the First and Second World Wars. The other spinoff will focus on Polly, Tommy Shelby’s aunt and the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan.
Meanwhile, creator Steven Knight confirmed a “Peaky Blinders” movie in development back in 2021, with a potential release in 2024. Knight stated, “The film is definitely happening, I’m writing the script at the moment. As soon as that’s finished, we will go into production.”
“Peaky Blinders,” which premiered on Netflix in 2013, follows the Shelby crime family’s rise and fall in post-World War I Birmingham, England. Led by Thomas Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, the series spans six seasons, covering significant historical events from 1919 to 1934. Various characters, allies, and adversaries contribute to the Shelby’s tumultuous journey, making “Peaky Blinders” a compelling saga of crime, politics, and family loyalty.
Both spinoffs and the “Peaky Blinders” movie promise to further enrich the captivating world of the series, although release dates are yet to be announced.
