Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has described the upcoming Star Wars film centered on Rey Skywalker as “very special.” In a conversation with CNN, Obaid-Chinoy expressed her excitement for helming the project, highlighting the significance of a woman leading a Star Wars film in 2024.
“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special,” Obaid-Chinoy stated. “And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”
The film is set more than ten years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will primarily focus on Rey’s efforts to expand and strengthen the New Jedi Order. Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey, with Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders, penning the script.
Alongside Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey Star Wars movie, Lucasfilm is also developing two other Star Wars films: one, an origin story about the Force directed by James Mangold, and the other, a film by franchise veteran Dave Filoni, concluding the story interwoven across television series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Despite no confirmed release date, anticipation is high for the Untitled Rey Skywalker-focused Star Wars film, promising an exciting continuation of Rey’s journey in the beloved franchise.
