Disney Channel’s beloved wizarding world is making a comeback with a sequel pilot to the iconic series Wizards of Waverly Place, featuring Selena Gomez and David Henrie.
Set to explore the adult life of Justin Russo (Henrie), the sequel pilot follows him living with his new family, stripped of his magical powers. When a young sorcerer named Billie (played by Janice LeAnn Brown) appears at his door after an incident at WizTech, Justin must rediscover his past to safeguard the future of wizarding.
Gomez, who portrayed Alex Russo in the original series, will guest-star in the sequel pilot and serve as an executive producer alongside Henrie. Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos join the cast as Justin’s son and wife, respectively.
While the returns of other original cast members like Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals Barrera, and David DeLuise remain uncertain, Stone and DeLuise have maintained a podcast called Wizards of Waverly Pod.
This sequel marks a return to the magical universe that captivated audiences from 2007 to 2012. Previous attempts to revisit the series include the 2013 one-hour special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, where the Russo family faces challenges during a vacation in Italy.
Wizards of Waverly Place originally followed the magical adventures of siblings Alex, Justin, and Max Russo as they navigated life while honing their wizarding skills and competed to retain their powers.
While a release date for the sequel pilot is yet to be announced, fans can anticipate a nostalgic journey back to the whimsical world of wizardry and wonder.
