‘Silk: Spider Society’ being redeveloped by Amazon after creative overhaul

The much-anticipated Marvel series, Silk: Spider Society, has recently undergone a significant creative overhaul, shifting its focus to a “male-skewing” audience, as reported by The Ankler.

Initially planned as a flagship series for Sony-Marvel co-productions on Amazon, Silk: Spider Society was set to explore the story of Cindy Moon, also known as Silk, a Korean-American superheroine from Queens. However, the project has experienced unexpected changes, including the complete overhaul of its writers room, leaving only showrunner Angela Kang and co-executive producers Kai Wu and Jim Barnes attached to the project.

The decision to refocus the creative direction towards a more male-skewing audience has sparked discussion and debate online regarding potential changes in tone and storytelling approach. While specific details remain undisclosed, the pivot suggests a shift in the series’ intended audience demographic.

Complications arose during the production process, particularly due to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2023, which halted progress on several episodes that had already been written. Despite these challenges, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their work on the acclaimed Spider-Verse movie, remain involved with Silk: Spider Society.
