In a surprising turn of events, it appears that Homer Simpson will continue his long-standing and controversial gag of strangling his son Bart in “The Simpsons.” Recently, an episode seemingly hinted at Homer giving up the habit, but co-creator James L. Brooks clarified that this change is not permanent.
In the mentioned episode, Homer joked about no longer strangling Bart, suggesting a shift in the character’s behavior. However, Brooks emphasized that fans should not expect any permanent alterations. He shared an illustration with People magazine, depicting Homer strangling Bart with a headline that read, “Simpsons: No more strangling.” Homer was shown yelling at Bart, “Why you little clickbaiting-!!”
Brooks assured that nothing is changing in terms of the show’s dynamics, stating, “Nothing’s getting tamed. Nothing, nothing, nothing, [Bart will] continue to be strangled – [if] you want to use that awful term for it. He’ll continue to be loved by his father [Homer] in a specific way.”
Although it’s noted that Homer’s character hasn’t strangled Bart since the show’s 31st season, which aired in 2019/2020, the co-creator’s comments suggest that the classic gag will likely make a return in the future.
