Renowned US Olympic gymnast Simone Biles recently shared exciting news on social media: she is now married. The 26-year-old athlete posted a series of romantic photos featuring herself and her new husband, Jonathan Owens, a player for the Houston Texans. The couple tied the knot in an intimate courthouse ceremony, where Biles looked radiant in a tiered white gown, and Owens donned a stylish tan suit. The snapshots captured the special moment as the couple exchanged vows.
Owens also shared behind-the-scenes pictures on his Instagram, expressing his love for Biles with the heartfelt caption, “my person, forever ❤️💍.”
Biles and Owens’ love story began in March 2020, when they connected through the private dating app Raya. Their relationship blossomed, and a few months later, Biles confirmed their commitment by sharing adorable photos of the couple on Instagram, captioning it simply, “It’s just us.”
Owens reciprocated by posting his own photos with the caption, “Now you rockin with a real one 🤞🏽🖤.”
After two years of dating, Owens proposed to Biles under a beautiful gazebo in Houston, Texas. The engagement ring, designed by renowned jewelers ZoFrost, featured a stunning diamond. The couple officially announced their engagement last February through a series of photos shared on Instagram.
Interestingly, Owens initially didn’t know much about Biles or her celebrity status as a member of the US Olympic team. This lack of familiarity turned out to be a blessing. Speaking to Texas Monthly, Owens shared, “I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.”
The couple’s paths had crossed during a Texans game in 2019, but they officially met through a chance encounter on social media. Recalling their first interaction, Biles explained to Wall Street Journal Magazine, “He would say I slid into his DMs. I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi… and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
Biles’s younger sister, Adria, played a role in bringing the couple closer by inviting Jonathan to a family lake house. The family embraced Jonathan, and he soon became a part of their gatherings.
Reflecting on their relationship, Owens shared, “We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic. It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger.”
“It was a rare period in her life when everything came to a halt, leaving her with no distractions or obligations. We took advantage of that time to truly connect and understand each other. It deepened our bond and solidified our relationship.”
Congratulations to Simone and Jonathan on their marriage! We extend our heartfelt wishes for a lifetime of happiness and love.
